Screed

Oh hi there! Do you ever notice when you are walking on a sidewalk, it's not perfectly flat? There might be bumps or dips here and there that makes it uneven. Well, in construction, we use a tool called screed to make sure that floors are perfectly flat and smooth.

Screed is like a long board or a beam that is used to spread a layer of concrete or asphalt evenly across a surface. Kind of like when you use a spatula to spread frosting evenly on a cake.

To use a screed, we first pour the concrete or asphalt mixture onto the floor. Then, we use the screed to spread the mixture around and level it out. It's important to make sure the screed is straight and level, just like when you use a ruler or a leveler.

Once the screed has spread the mixture evenly across the surface, we can let it dry and harden. After the mixture has fully set, we can polish or add a finish to the surface to make it look shiny and smooth.

So, think of screed like a giant spatula that helps us make floors perfectly flat and smooth, just like a perfect cake!
