ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Screw conveyor

A screw conveyor is like a big tube with a spiral inside it. Think of a twisted noodle inside of a straw. The spiral is like a ramp that goes around and around inside the tube. When you put things like dirt, sand, or food into the opening of the tube, the spiral inside it helps move those things along all the way to the other end.

It's kind of like when you play with a toy car on a track that has hills and twists. The car goes around the track and goes up and down the hills. Except with a screw conveyor, it's the spiral inside the tube doing all the work, not a toy car!

Screw conveyors are used in a lot of different places. They're great for moving things like grains, cement, and coal from one place to another. But they're also used in some factories to mix ingredients for things like dough or paint.

So next time you see a big tube with a spiral inside, think of a screw conveyor!
