ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Section 115 Reform Act of 2006

Okay, so imagine you have a toy that you want to share with your friends. You know you have to ask your parents if it's okay to share it because it's not just yours.

Now, imagine that instead of just one toy, there are thousands and thousands of songs that people want to share on the internet. These songs belong to the people who made them, just like your toy belongs to you and your parents.

So, the government made a rule called the Section 115 Reform Act of 2006. This rule says that if someone wants to share a song on the internet, they have to get permission from the person who made the song, just like you have to get permission from your parents to share your toy.

This rule helps make sure that the people who made the songs get paid for their hard work, just like you would want to be paid for your toy if someone else was playing with it all the time.
