Sikhs are people who follow the teachings of Guru Nanak Sahib. Guru Nanak Sahib is the first Guru of Sikhism. Sikhism is a religion that started in Punjab, India. Guru Nanak Sahib taught people to be kind to one another, to work hard and to always remember God. His teachings were simple and easy to understand, and he believed that everyone could become closer to God.
As time passed, Sikhs started to follow different ways of practicing their religion. These differences led to different sects of Sikhism. A sect is a group of people who share the same beliefs and practices.
The three main sects of Sikhism are:
1. The Udasis – This sect of Sikhism focuses on meditation and quiet reflection. They believe that by focusing their minds, they can become closer to God. Udasis also follow strict rules about what they eat and how they live.
2. The Nirmalas – The Nirmalas are known for their scholarship and knowledge of Sikhism. They focus on studying and understanding the texts and teachings of the Gurus. They also try to live their lives according to these teachings.
3. The Khalsa – This sect of Sikhism was started by Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Guru of Sikhism. The Khalsa believe in the importance of fighting for justice and standing up against oppression. They also follow strict rules about what they wear and how they live.
Each sect of Sikhism has its own unique way of practicing their religion, but they all share a common belief in the teachings of Guru Nanak Sahib.
