ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Securities market

A securities market is a place where people can buy and sell shares of companies.

Imagine that you have a toy that you really like playing with, but you want to share it with other kids. You decide to split your toy into smaller pieces and sell each piece to other kids for some money.

Now, pretend that the toy is a big company (like Apple or Amazon) and the pieces are called shares. When people buy shares of a company, they are giving that company some money in exchange for a small piece of ownership in that company.

The securities market is where these shares are bought and sold. It's kind of like a big store where people go to buy and sell shares of different companies. People can buy shares of companies that they think will do well and then sell them later for more money if the company does well.

It's important to remember that the prices of shares can change a lot depending on how well a company is doing or what people think about the company. So, buying and selling shares in the securities market can be a bit like a game. You have to be careful and do your research before deciding which company to invest in.
