Self refers to a very important part of us, like a big captain who steers the ship of our life. This captain is the center of ourselves and is made up by all of our experiences, thoughts, and feelings. It determines how we act, think, and feel about everything around us.
The self is made up of many ingredients – like a recipe with lots of ingredients – and it constantly changes over time as we grow and learn. Imagine a big puzzle, where each piece represents a part of who we are. Sometimes all the pieces fit together smoothly and we feel balanced, but other times it may feel like some pieces are missing or don't fit quite right, and this can make us feel out of harmony.
Jung, a very smart man who thought a lot about the self, believed that understanding and accepting all the different parts of ourselves was very important in order to have a happy and fulfilling life. He believed that by exploring the parts of ourselves that we don't always like or understand, we can find a sense of inner peace and balance. Just like how we learn to love all the different parts of ourselves as we grow up, we can also learn to accept and appreciate all the different parts of ourselves as we continue to grow and change throughout our lives.
