ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Self-interest

Self-interest is when you do something because it makes you happy or helps you in some way. It's like when you want to eat some candy because it tastes good and makes you happy, even if your parents tell you not to eat too much. Self-interest can be good or bad depending on what you are doing and how it affects other people. For example, if you take all the candy and don't share with your friends, that's not very nice and can make them feel sad. But if you share some of the candy with your friends, they will be happy too and it can make your friendship stronger. So, it's important to think about how your self-interest can affect others and try to balance your own happiness with being kind to others.
