ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Self-sealing fuel tank

A self-sealing fuel tank is like a magical tank that can fix itself when it gets a boo-boo. Like when you scrape your knee and it heals on its own, a self-sealing fuel tank has a special material inside that automatically seals up any holes or leaks from weapons or accidents.

To understand how it works, think of a sandwich with yummy cheese in the middle, and two slices of bread on either side. Now imagine that the cheese is a special material that can turn into a thick jelly when it comes in contact with air.

In a self-sealing fuel tank, this special material is sandwiched between layers of fuel-resistant material. When the tank gets hit by a bullet or gets punctured, the special material instantly expands and fills the hole, sealing off any leaks. This helps keep the fuel from leaking out and causing a fire or explosion.

So, basically, a self-sealing fuel tank is like having tiny superheroes inside your tank that quickly fix any damage that happens. Cool, right?
