Okay kiddo, have you ever played a game of treasure hunt? You know how you follow a map to find the treasure? Similarly, our brains have a map called sensory map that guides us to find the different things that we sense with our body.
Our body has five senses - sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell. And each sense has a special part of our brain that acts as a map to guide us. Let's take the example of our sense of touch.
So kiddo, our skin is divided into different areas, each with its own sensory map in our brain. When we touch something, the nerves in our skin send signals to our brain which will show us where we touched it on the sensory map. You know, like coloring a map with different colors in different places.
And because every part of our body has a different sensory map, our brain can tell the difference between the touch of a feather and the touch of a pencil.
Similarly, for every other sense, our brain has a sensory map that helps us to process all the information we receive from the world around us. Isn't that amazing? Our brain is like a super treasure map that helps us to find and identify everything we see, hear, touch, taste and smell!
