ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Septimania

Septimania was a place a very long time ago where lots of people lived, like a big neighborhood. It was in a Country called France, which can be a little bit confusing because today it's not called Septimania anymore.

In the olden days, it was named Septimania because it was the seventh area or "region" of the Roman Empire. The people who lived there spoke a special language called "Occitan," which was different than the language spoken in other parts of the country. They also had their own special culture and way of doing things.

The area of Septimania was an important place during many different times in history. Lots of battles and wars happened there over the years, and different groups of people took turns being in charge of it. Today, some people still live in the area that used to be Septimania. They speak French instead of Occitan now, but they still have their own traditions and ways of doing things that make them special.
