ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Service mark symbol

When a company creates a special name, logo, or phrase to represent their business, they can use something called a "service mark" to protect it. A service mark is a special symbol, that looks like a little "SM," that the company can put next to their name or logo to show that it belongs to them. It's like a secret handshake that only they can use. So, if another company tries to use the same name, logo, or phrase, they could get in trouble for copying the original company's idea. The little "SM" reminds everyone that the name, logo, or phrase is owned by the original company, and they don't want anyone else taking credit for their hard work!
