ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Session key

Okay kiddo, imagine you have a secret diary where you write down all of your thoughts and feelings. You want to make sure that only you can read it, and no one else can sneak a peek. That's where a session key comes in.

A session key is like a special key that you use to lock your diary. When you want to write something down, you use the key to unlock it and start writing. Then, when you're finished, you lock it back up with the key again.

Now, imagine that you're typing a message to a friend on the computer. Just like your diary, you don't want anyone else to be able to see your message. So, instead of a real key, your computer uses a special code called a session key to lock up your message.

When you hit "send", your computer uses this session key to scramble your message into a secret code that only your friend's computer can unlock. Just like how your diary only opens with the right key, your message will only be decoded with the right session key.

This makes sure that no one else can read your message - just like how only you can read your secret diary. And just like with your diary, once the message is sent, the session key locks it up again so that no one else can see it.
