ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Set (deity)

Okay kiddo, imagine you go to school and there is a teacher who is in charge of everything that happens in the classroom. They decide what you should learn, when you should do it, and how you should behave. Now imagine that there is someone like that for everything in the whole world. That is what people who believe in a "set" god think of this god.

In particular, the ancient Egyptians believed that Set was a god who controlled the desert, storms, and chaos. They thought that Set could bring blessings or disasters, depending on what he felt like doing. Sometimes he would help his followers, and other times he would hurt them.

People who worship Set would try to keep him happy by offering him gifts, making offerings, and performing rituals. That way, they hoped that he would treat them kindly and not cause any trouble. They also believed that Set was one of the most powerful of all the Egyptian gods, so they had to be careful not to make him angry.

So, in short: Set is a god from ancient Egyptian mythology who was believed to control the desert, storms, and chaos. People worshipped him to try and keep him happy and avoid his temper.
