ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Severe weather

Severe weather means very bad weather that can hurt people and damage things. You might have seen severe weather on the news, like very strong winds, heavy rain, or snow that falls really fast. Sometimes it can be dangerous, like thunderstorms, tornadoes, or hurricanes.

When the weather is severe, it's important to stay safe. That means staying inside if you can, away from windows, and not going outside until it's over. You should also have a plan with your family in case of severe weather, like where to go if you need to take cover or evacuate. Listening to weather forecasts and alerts can help you stay prepared too.

Severe weather happens because of different things, like changes in temperature or air pressure. Sometimes it's caused by things like thunderstorms, which happen when warm and cold air mix together in the sky. Tornadoes are created when winds from different directions collide and cause a spinning, funnel-shaped cloud. Hurricanes are very powerful storms that form over the ocean and move towards land.

So, severe weather is something we need to be careful about, but we can stay safe by being prepared and listening to weather warnings.
