ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Shades of blue

Okay kid, have you ever seen the sky? It's usually blue, right? But have you noticed that sometimes it's a really light blue, like when the sun comes up in the morning, and sometimes it's a really dark blue, like when it's almost nighttime?

Well, there's lots and lots of different shades of blue, just like there's lots of different shades of other colors too. A shade of blue just means how light or dark it is, and sometimes it also means what tone of blue it is too.

For example, there's baby blue, which is a really light, soft blue that's almost like a pastel. Then there's navy blue, which is a really dark, rich blue that's almost like a deep purple-blue. And there's everything in between, like robin's egg blue, sky blue, cobalt blue, and so many more!

So, whenever you hear someone talking about different shades of blue, they're just talking about all the different types of blue colors there are. Pretty cool, huh?
