ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Shallow focus

Shallow focus is when a camera takes a picture or a video and focuses on only one thing, leaving the other things in the background blurry.

Imagine you are playing with your toys on the floor, and your mom takes a picture of you holding your favorite doll. Shallow focus is like the camera only focusing on your doll, making it super clear and detailed, but making your face and everything else behind you fuzzy and blurry.

This technique is often used in movies and TV shows to make the main character stand out from the background and draw the viewer's attention to them. It's kind of like looking at something through a telescope, where you only see what's in the center and the rest is blurry.

So, shallow focus means focusing on only one thing and making the rest blurry, just like in a picture where one object is clear and the background is blurry.
