ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Shamir's secret sharing

Shamir's secret sharing is like when you have a secret, but you want to keep it safe with your friends. Let's say you have a toy and you don't want to lose it, so you break it into pieces and give each of your friends one piece to keep.

But here's the extra special part - the toy can only be put back together if every friend brings their own piece back to you. So if one friend loses their piece, it's okay because the toy can still be put back together with the other friends' pieces.

This is called "sharing a secret" because none of your friends can know what the secret is by just looking at their piece. But when everyone puts their piece back together, the secret is revealed!

In the same way, Shamir's secret sharing creates secret codes that can only be revealed when certain conditions are met, like when everyone brings their "piece" back. It's a way of keeping secrets safe even when you're sharing them with others.
