Shangdu

Shangdu is a special place that existed long ago during a time called the Yuan Dynasty. It's a really special place because it's where the emperor of the time decided to make his summer palace.

Imagine you live in a really big house with a huge backyard. Sometimes when it gets really hot outside, you might want to go outside to play, but it's just too hot to do anything. Well, that's kind of what happened to the emperor. It got so hot in the city where he lived, that he decided to build a special palace where he could go to when it's hot to be comfortable.

So he picked a beautiful spot, near a river and a mountain, and built his summer palace there. The emperor wanted it to be so beautiful that it would make people feel like they were in a dream. There were lots of gardens with lots of plants and flowers, small streams with fish, and beautiful buildings throughout the palace.

And because he was the emperor, he made sure there were special people who took care of the place and made sure everything was perfect for him to enjoy. There were also special guests who were allowed to visit and see how beautiful Shangdu was.

And that's what Shangdu was - a very special place where the emperor of the Yuan Dynasty could go to enjoy his summer, surrounded by beautiful gardens and cool streams.
