ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Shape parameter

Shape parameter is a fancy way of saying that something has a certain shape. Imagine you have a bunch of blocks to play with. Some blocks are longer and skinnier, while others are shorter and fatter. The shape parameter tells you what kind of shape the block is.

For example, let's say you have a block that is shaped like a rectangle. The shape parameter for that block would be two numbers: one for the length and one for the width. If the length is 4 inches and the width is 2 inches, then the shape parameter would be (4, 2).

Now let's say you have a block that is shaped like a triangle. The shape parameter for that block would be the length of each side. If each side is 3 inches long, then the shape parameter would be 3.

So, whenever you hear the term shape parameter, just remember that it's talking about what the thing looks like - is it tall and skinny or short and fat, or maybe something else entirely.
