Sharpening jig

A sharpening jig is a tool that helps you sharpen things like knives or carpentry tools. It works like a puzzle piece that attaches to the tool you want to sharpen. Think of it like a special holder that holds the tool in place and makes sure you sharpen it at the right angle. This is important because if you sharpen your tool at the wrong angle, it might not work as well or it might even break.

Once you have your tool in the sharpening jig, you use a sharpening stone or sandpaper to rub against the edge of the tool. This is called "grinding" or "whetting" the tool. The sharpening jig helps you keep the tool in the right position while you do this.

After you've ground the edge of the tool a few times, you'll want to switch to a finer sharpening stone or sandpaper to smooth out any rough spots. This is called "honing" the tool. Again, the sharpening jig helps you keep the tool in the right position while you do this.

Once you've finished honing the tool, you should be able to feel how much sharper and smoother it is. It's like getting a new tool all over again! And the best part is that you can use your sharpening jig again and again on all your tools to keep them in great shape.
