Sheela na Gig

Okay kiddo, have you ever seen a weird face carved into an old building? That's kind of what a Sheela na gig is.

Basically, it's a type of carving or sculpture - usually made from stone - of a lady with really big eyes and mouth, who is holding open her private parts.

These carvings were made a long, long time ago in places like Ireland and England, and they were put on the outside of buildings, like churches and castles.

Now, some people think that Sheela na gig was a goddess who represented fertility and birth. Others think that she was meant to ward off evil spirits, or maybe just to make people laugh.

But no one knows for sure what these carvings really meant, and that's part of what makes them so interesting!
