ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Shift rule

Imagine playing a game with your friends where you all stand in a line and pass a ball to each other. Now, let's say the person at the front of the line has been playing for a while and is getting tired. They want to take a break but still want to play later.

Instead of stopping the game, they can use a shift rule. This means they can move to the back of the line and take a rest while someone else takes their place at the front.

This way, the game continues and everyone gets a turn to rest and play. It's like taking turns being the leader of the game while also making sure everyone gets a fair chance to play without getting too tired.

In other words, the shift rule is like a rotation system that allows different people to take turns doing a certain task or role, without interrupting the overall process or activity.
