ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Shiken haramitsu daikoumyo

Shiken haramitsu daikoumyo is a phrase from the Japanese language that is often used in Buddhism. It means "may all beings awaken to the great and hidden light and be free from suffering."

Imagine that there is a big bright light that exists inside of all of us, like a lightbulb in your belly! But sometimes we forget about this light and our minds get cloudy and sad. This is called suffering.

When we say shiken haramitsu daikoumyo, we are wishing for everyone to remember that they have this light inside them and that they can be free from suffering. We are also wishing for everyone to be kind and help each other, so we can all be happy together!

So, shiken haramitsu daikoumyo is like a really nice wish that we make for everyone to remember their inner light, be happy, and help each other out.
