ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Shikken

Okay kiddo, so shikken is a really big word that means you have someone in charge who helps the person who is really in charge. Kind of like when your big brother or sister helps your mom or dad watch over you when they're busy.

In Japan a long time ago, there was a big leader called the Shogun who ruled over the country. But sometimes the Shogun was too busy or too far away to take care of everything, so they chose someone else to help. That person was called the shikken.

The shikken would make sure that everything was going smoothly and that the people were happy. They would help the Shogun make important decisions and sometimes even make decisions for him when he wasn't around.

So, think of the shikken like a really responsible helper who watches over things when the boss isn't around. They make sure everything is running smoothly and everyone is happy.
