Shoelace formula

Okay kiddo, imagine you want to make a knot with your shoelaces. Now, how much lace will you need? It depends on how long your laces are and how you want to tie the knot.

So some smart people figured out a formula that tells you exactly how long your laces need to be. They called it the shoelace formula.

The formula involves a bit of math. First, you need to measure the length of one lace in inches. Let's say it's 36 inches long.

Then you need to count how many eyelets (the little holes where you put the laces through) your shoe has. Let's say your shoe has 6 eyelets on each side. So you have a total of 12 eyelets.

Now, you use the shoelace formula:

LACE LENGTH = (2 x (eyelets + 1)) x (lace length / 2)

Don't worry too much about the formula, just remember to plug in the numbers we just talked about.

So,

LACE LENGTH = (2 x (12 + 1)) x (36 / 2)

LACE LENGTH = 26 x 18

LACE LENGTH = 468 inches

Wow, that's a really long lace! But don't worry, you don't actually have to use one continuous lace that's 468 inches long. You can buy laces that come in different lengths and tie them together if you need to.

So there you have it, the shoelace formula tells you exactly how long your laces need to be. And you can impress your friends with your math skills!
