ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Show, don't tell

"Show, don't tell" means that you shouldn't just tell someone what is happening, you should show them. For example, if you want to tell someone that it's raining outside, you could just say "It's raining." But that's not very exciting. If you want to show them, you could say "I hear drops of water hitting the roof." This helps the person reading or listening to your story picture it in their head and feel like they are there experiencing it. So, instead of just telling a story, make it come alive by showing what's happening through descriptive language and imagery.
