ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Sicilian Mafia

The Sicilian Mafia is a group of people who live in Sicily, which is an island in Italy. The Mafia is a group that some people think is bad, because they like to do things that are not allowed by law. They are like a secret group because not everyone can join them, only people who are chosen by other members.

The Mafia has been around for a very long time and it is said that they started to exist to protect people who didn't have anyone else to protect them. But over time, some of the members started to do bad things like stealing, hurting people and even killing.

People in the Mafia have their own laws and rules that they follow. They have a leader who is called the "boss" and other important people who are called "lieutenants." They have their own way of talking too, which is called "Sicilian," and it is different from the regular Italian language.

The Mafia is very secretive and they don't like it when people talk about them or try to interfere with what they are doing. They have been known to use violence and threats to keep people quiet.

The Italian government has been trying to stop the Mafia from doing bad things for a very long time. They created special police forces and put many of the Mafia members in jail. But the Mafia is still around, and there are still some people who are part of it.

So, in short, the Sicilian Mafia is a group of people who have their own rules and do things that many people don't like. The government is trying to stop them from doing bad things, but they are still around.
