ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Siemens cycle

The Siemens cycle is a process used in gas turbine engines to convert the energy from burning fuel into useful work that can be used to power things like airplanes or generators. It works by taking in air from the environment, compressing it to make it denser, adding fuel to create a big fiery explosion, and then using the energy from that explosion to spin a turbine which generates electricity. Think of it like blowing up a balloon, but instead of just making a funny noise, we're harnessing that energy to power things! The cycle is named after Ernst Werner von Siemens, a German engineer who first developed the idea in the 1860s.
