ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Signing Time!

When you want to show that something is truly yours or that you agree to something, you write your name on a piece of paper. This is called "signing". It's like a special way of saying "I promise" or "I agree" that everyone can see.

People can also sign important papers to show that they really mean what they say. For example, when you go to the doctor, your parent or guardian might sign a form saying that it's okay for the doctor to treat you. This means they are giving permission for the doctor to help you.

Sometimes, grown-ups also sign contracts. A contract is like a promise between two people or companies. They agree to do certain things and sign a paper to show that they will keep their promise.

So when you see someone signing something, it means they are saying "yes, I promise" or "yes, I agree" to something really important.
