ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Single pilot resource management

Single Pilot Resource Management (SPRM) is a way for one person, called the pilot, to do lots of different things while flying a plane. When you fly a plane, there are lots of things you need to pay attention to like the weather, fuel levels, where you are flying, and if anything happens, like an emergency.

SPRM is like a boss that helps the pilot do all these things correctly and safely. The pilot is like the boss of the plane, and SPRM helps them manage all of the different things they need to do.

Some things that SPRM helps the pilot do are to:

- Plan their flight route: this is like making a plan for driving to the store or school. The pilot needs to know which way they will go and how long it will take them to get there. SPRM helps the pilot figure out the best route and make sure they have enough fuel for the trip.

- Check the weather: just like you need to know if it's going to be sunny or rainy when you go outside to play, the pilot needs to know what the weather will be like before they start flying. SPRM can help the pilot check the weather and decide if it's safe to fly.

- Communicate with air traffic control: when you drive your car, you don't usually have to talk to anyone on the phone or radio. But when you fly a plane, the pilot needs to talk to air traffic control to make sure they know where other planes are and where they are supposed to go. SPRM can help the pilot communicate with air traffic control and make sure they are following the right rules.

So, to summarize, SPRM is like a helper for the pilot to make sure they can do all the different things they need to do when flying a plane. It helps the pilot plan their route, check the weather, and talk to air traffic control to make sure they are safe and following the rules.
