Sir Arthur Harris, 1st Baronet

Sir Arthur Harris, 1st Baronet was a man who lived a long time ago and did some very important things. He was born in England in 1892 and when he grew up, he became a pilot. Do you know what a pilot is? A pilot is someone who flies planes.

Now, during the Second World War, Sir Arthur was put in charge of something called the Royal Air Force Bomber Command. The Royal Air Force is a group of people who fly planes for the British army. Bombs are things that explode and cause damage, and when planes drop bombs, it's called bombing. Sir Arthur was in charge of making sure that the planes dropped bombs in the right place to help win the war.

Now, Sir Arthur had a really important job and some people weren't very happy about the things he did. You see, sometimes the bombs that were dropped hurt innocent people, like children and families. This made some people think that Sir Arthur had done the wrong thing, but others thought that he did what he had to do to protect his country.

After the war was over, Sir Arthur retired and lived a long life. And even though some people disagreed with him, he will always be remembered as an important person in history who tried to make his country safe.
