Situationism (psychology)

Situationism is an idea in psychology that argues that we are more influenced by our situation than by our personality. This means that even if we usually behave in a certain kind of way, the situation we are in can change the way we think, feel and act. For example, if you are usually kind and friendly, but you are in a very stressful situation, you may become defensive and angry. That doesn't mean you are no longer a kind person, it just means that the situation changed your behavior.
