Sixth Party System

The sixth party system is the political system that has been in place in the United States since the late 1960s. It is the current system, which is composed of two main political parties - the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. These two parties dominate American politics by controlling the presidency, Congress, and the Supreme Court. In the sixth party system, American voters tend to pick either a Democratic or Republican candidate, rather than voting for a third-party candidate. That means that the two main parties have a lot of influence over which laws get passed and how the country is run.
