Slave health on plantations in the United States

Slaves were people who were owned by someone else and forced to work for them. On plantations in the United States, slaves had to work very hard, doing things like picking cotton, cutting down trees and taking care of animals. Because of the hard work, it was very difficult for slaves to stay healthy. They were often not given enough food or access to medical care. This meant that they were weak and sick a lot, and they could die from diseases or infections.
