Slavery in New France

Slavery was a system in which people owned other people, treating them as property and forcing them to work. In New France (now called Canada), some people owned slaves and treated them badly. Slaves were owned by rich people and were made to do hard tasks like cooking, farming, and cleaning. They had no freedom and were not even allowed to marry or have families. Slaves had no choice; they had to obey their owners and could be punished for not obeying them. In some cases, slaves were even killed for trying to escape. This was wrong, and eventually slavery in New France ended.
