Slavic-speakers of Greek Macedonia

Okay kiddo, let me tell you about the Slavic-speaking people who live in a place called Greek Macedonia.

So, you know how there are different languages that people speak around the world? Well, in Greece, a country in Europe, the main language that people speak is Greek. But in a region of Greece called Macedonia, some people speak a different language called Slavic. These people are sometimes called Slavic-speakers or Slavophone people.

Now, this region of Macedonia used to be part of a larger region called Yugoslavia. Yugoslavia was a country made up of different regions where people spoke different languages like Slovenian, Croatian, Serbian, and Bosnian. But in the 1990s, Yugoslavia broke up into smaller countries, and Macedonia became its own country.

But some people who live in Greece's Macedonia region identify as Macedonian and want more recognition for their language and culture. This has been a sensitive issue between Greece and Macedonia for many years.

So, in short, Slavic-speaking people live in a region of Greece called Macedonia and speak a different language than the majority of Greeks who speak Greek. Some of these Slavic-speakers identify as Macedonian and want recognition for their language and culture.
