Sludge is a sticky and gooey material that is not very nice to touch.
It is usually created from things that are left over after we use water. Like when you take a bath, the dirt and soap scum gets mixed with the water and goes down the drain. Over time, all of these leftovers can build up and make a thick, yucky material called sludge.
Sludge can be found in places like septic tanks, sewage treatment plants and in bodies of water like ponds, lakes and even oceans. It’s not very pleasant to imagine, but it is important to control and manage sludge because it can be harmful to the environment and health if left untreated.
To get rid of sludge, there are a few different ways. Sometimes bacteria or other creatures can break it down naturally, but other times people have to clean it up using machines or other equipment. It’s important to remember to not touch sludge, because it can be full of germs and bacteria that can make you very sick.
