ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Small modular reactor

Hey there little buddy! Today we're going to talk about something called a Small Modular Reactor or SMR for short.

Do you know what a power plant is? It's a place where we create electricity so we can turn on the lights in our homes or charge our electronic toys.

An SMR is a type of power plant that uses something called nuclear energy to make electricity. It's called "small" because it's much smaller than the big nuclear power plants you might have seen on TV or in books.

Instead of having one big nuclear reactor like those big plants, an SMR has a bunch of smaller reactors all working together. It's a bit like having a group of ants working together to carry a big piece of food.

Because SMRs are smaller, they're easier to build and transport. They can even be built in a factory and then driven to the place where they'll be used. That's pretty cool, huh?

But don't worry, they're still very safe. Engineers have made sure that they won't have any big accidents like we've seen in the movies.

So, that's what an SMR is, a small power plant that creates electricity using nuclear energy, using lots of little reactors working together.
