Smoke and mirrors

Smoke and mirrors is an expression which means something is done to confuse or trick people. It can be used to describe a situation in which someone creates the false impression of success or openness, by providing partial information or making things seem more exciting or important than they actually are. For example, a politician might talk about all the ways they're helping people, but not mention that their plan could also hurt other people. Or a company might talk about their amazing new product, but not say that it doesn't actually work yet. In both cases, the people are using smoke and mirrors to make things look better than they really are.
