The Snettisham Hoard is a collection of very old things that were found underground in a place called Snettisham in England. These things were buried there a very long time ago, way before you were born!
The hoard was discovered by some people who were looking for things using special machines called metal detectors. They were very lucky to find it because it was hiding under the ground for so many years.
Now, what did they find exactly? They found lots and lots of shiny things made of a special metal called gold, which is very valuable. They also found things made of another metal called silver. These shiny things were mostly small and looked like buttons or pieces of jewelry.
But the most special thing they found in the Snettisham Hoard were these round metal discs called torcs. They were huge and looked like very fancy necklaces for giants! These torcs are super important because they were made a very long time ago by people called Celts.
The Celts were a group of people who lived a very, very long time ago in the land that is now called the United Kingdom. They were very clever and good at making things. These torcs were probably made by Celtic artists who were skilled in metalworking.
So why were these shiny things buried underground in the first place? Well, back in those days, people didn't have banks or safes to keep their precious things. So, they used to hide them in the ground to keep them safe. Maybe the person who buried the Snettisham Hoard wanted to keep it a secret or save it for later.
The fact that this hoard was buried underground for so many years and then found by people like you and me is really amazing. It tells us a lot about the history and the cleverness of our ancestors. Today, these shiny things are being looked after by special people in a museum so that everyone can go and see them and learn about our past.
