ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Social graph

Imagine that you have a lot of friends and family, like your mommy, daddy, best friend and neighbor. Now, imagine if you drew lines between them, showing how they all know each other or have met before. That would be like creating a map of your social connections, and it’s called your social graph. This map can grow bigger as you meet more people and make new friends.

For example, if you meet your friend's friend while playing in the park, you can add a new connection to the map, and that would make your social graph even bigger. And when you connect with more people and have more connections, it becomes easier to find new friends who share the same interests as you, and you can even find out about events and parties that your friends are going to.

Social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram also have social graphs, but instead of lines, it’s more like a web of dots that connect users based on their mutual friends or similar interests. So, instead of manually mapping out your social connections like drawing a map, these platforms do it for you automatically.

In summary, your social graph is like a map of your social connections, and it can help you find new friends who share the same interests as you. Social media platforms also have social graphs, which help users connect with each other based on their mutual connections and similarities.
