Soda geyser

Okay kiddo, have you ever opened a soda bottle and noticed how the liquid inside fizzes up and sometimes sprays out of the bottle? Well, that fizzing is caused by a gas called carbon dioxide that's trapped inside the liquid. When you open the bottle, the gas wants to escape and bubbles up to the surface.

Now, if you drop something like Mentos candy into the soda bottle, it creates a lot of tiny little bubbles on its surface. These bubbles provide lots of surface area for the carbon dioxide gas to latch onto and escape from the liquid. So when the Mentos sink to the bottom of the soda, the gas is released all at once and shoots up out of the bottle really fast.

This creates what we call a "soda geyser," which is basically a big eruption of soda shooting out of the bottle. It's super cool to watch, but you have to be careful because it can make a big mess if you're not careful. So if you want to try it for yourself, make sure you do it outside and with parental supervision!
