Soda lime

Okay, so you know how sometimes when you breathe, you breathe out air that you don't need anymore? This air is called exhaled air, and it usually contains a gas called carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is important because too much of it can make you feel sick or even hurt you.

Now, imagine you're in a hospital and you're very sick. The doctors need to help you breathe, but they also need to make sure that the air you breathe out doesn't have too much carbon dioxide in it. That's where soda lime comes in.

Soda lime is a special substance that helps remove carbon dioxide from the air you breathe out. It's kind of like a sponge that absorbs the carbon dioxide so that you can breathe in fresh air without getting sick. The doctors put the soda lime in a special machine called a ventilator, which helps you breathe by pushing air in and out of your lungs.

So, when you're using a ventilator, you're basically breathing in fresh air that has been cleaned by soda lime. And because the soda lime is doing its job, you can rest and recover without worrying about breathing problems.
