ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Solar transit

Okay kiddo, let me explain to you what a solar transit is. Do you know what the sun is? It’s that big ball of fire up in the sky.

Now, do you know what a transit is? It’s kind of like when you take a bus or a train from one place to another.

So when we talk about a solar transit, we are talking about a special event where a planet or moon passes between the sun and the Earth. It’s kind of like a bus passing in front of the sun.

When this happens, astronomers get very excited! They can use telescopes and other special equipment to watch the planet or moon as it moves in front of the sun. They can learn a lot about the planet or moon by studying this event.

Solar transits don’t happen very often, so it’s a pretty special thing to see. But remember, never look directly at the sun. It can hurt your eyes! Always use special equipment or ask an adult for help.
