ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Solfège

Solfège is a way of singing and reading music notes. It's like a special language for music.

You know how when you learn to read, you learn the letters and words? In solfège, we also learn the notes of music. But instead of saying A, B, C, etc., we use special words like "do", "re", "mi", "fa", "so", "la", and "ti". These words help us remember which note to sing.

So, let's say you want to sing a song. First, you have to know which notes to sing. Using solfège, you would start with "do" and then sing the rest of the notes in the song using the different solfège words.

Solfège also uses hand signs to help you remember the different notes. Each solfège word has a different hand sign, like making a fist for "do" or holding up three fingers for "mi".

Using solfège helps musicians communicate and learn music better. It's like having a secret code for music notes!
