ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Solid ink

Solid ink is like crayon wax that can print on paper. Instead of using liquid ink that can dry out and clog printer nozzles, solid ink is shaped like a stick or block and melts when heated. The melted ink is then sprayed onto the paper in tiny droplets to create the printed image. It's like cooking a crayon and then using it to draw on paper!

Solid ink printers are ideal for producing high-quality images because they can blend colors and print on a variety of media types, including glossy paper and transparencies. They're also more environmentally friendly than traditional inkjet printers because they use less packaging and generate less waste. Plus, they produce vibrant and eye-catching prints that can last for a long time. So, next time you see a brightly-colored poster or photo, it might have been printed with solid ink!
