ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Soundproofing

Okay, let's say you're in your room and your parents are watching a movie in the living room. You can hear the movie really loud and it's hard to hear yourself think or play quietly. Soundproofing is like wearing ear muffs or headphones so that you don't hear any noise from the movie in the living room.

To soundproof a room, you have to do some things to stop the sound from coming in or going out. One way to do this is to put something thick and dense on the walls like foam panels or blankets. This stops the sound from bouncing around the room and going through the walls.

Another way to soundproof is to put something heavy around the room like a bookshelf filled with books or a mattress against the wall. This stops the sound from getting in or out because it's too heavy for the sound waves to go through.

Finally, you can also use special doors or windows that are thicker and sealed tightly to prevent sound from getting in or out.

Remember: soundproofing is doing things to stop sounds from coming in or going out of a room, just like how ear muffs or headphones stop you from hearing loud noise.
