ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Southern African Development Community

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) is a group of 16 countries in southern Africa that work together to make things better for all the people who live there.

Just like how you would have a group of friends to play and help each other, these countries are friends who work together to grow their economies, improve trade, and make sure that everyone has access to food, clean water, and healthcare.

The countries in SADC include Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. They all work together to come up with ideas and plans to help each other out.

For example, they might agree to build a big dam to store water that can be used for irrigation, helping farmers to grow crops even during dry seasons. Or they might lower trade barriers to help businesses in different countries sell their goods across borders.

All the countries in SADC have their own individual strengths and challenges, but by working together they are able to achieve great things and improve people's lives.
