ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Sovkhoz

Okay kiddo, imagine a big farm where the government is in charge. They are the boss and tell everyone what to do. The name of this big farm is called a sovkhoz.

Just like your parents tell you what chores to do around the house, the government tells the workers on the sovkhoz what to do on the farm. The workers have to follow the rules and work hard to grow crops and take care of animals.

When the crops are ready to be picked, the government takes them and sells them in the market to make money. Sometimes the workers get paid for their hard work, and sometimes they don't make any money at all.

This big farm is run by the government because they want to make sure everyone has enough food to eat. They also want to make sure the farm makes enough money to support the country.

So, that's what a sovkhoz is - a big farm owned by the government where workers grow crops, take care of animals, and the government sells the products to make money.
