Soweto Uprising

The Soweto Uprising was a student protest in the South African township of Soweto in 1976. The students were protesting against a law that said that all schools had to use the language Afrikaans to teach in. The students didn’t want this because most of them only spoke English or their home languages. The protest started with the students marching through the streets of Soweto with signs and slogans. The police tried to stop the protest by shooting at the students. Many of the students were killed by the police, and hundreds were injured. This event sent shockwaves across the whole world and helped to fight against apartheid in South Africa.
